Breaking conference attendance records by applying a human touch

In a technology-focused landscape, we helped CPHR BC & Yukon sell out their 61st annual conference by placing human creativity and curiosity front and centre.

Communication design challenge

iilo has designed the branding for CPHR BC & Yukon’s annual conference for over 10 years. Each year, we’re tasked with creating new event marketing materials that inspire conference attendees to explore a unique theme. In 2024, the “Flourish” event theme invited HR professionals to connect with the idea of growing, thriving, and achieving success while navigating advances in Artificial Intelligence and the personal human touch at the core of their work. Through expert talks, engaging activities, and a showcase of the latest HR products and services, conference-goers left with ideas and tools to create modern, thriving workplaces.

The conference theme had a custom wordmark and colour palette designed to align with CPHR BC & Yukon’s corporate brand.

As usual, we produced all event marketing pieces for pre-conference marketing and all branding on-site at the event. This year, we expanded our services to help CPHR BC & Yukon procure a custom illustration to represent the “Flourish” theme.

Keeping with the organization’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, we used this opportunity to elevate a local illustrator representing equity-deserving groups. As a result, graphic designer and muralist Cynthia Tran Vo was invited to create a custom illustration to depict flourishing workplaces.
Our design team collaborated with Cynthia at several key points in her creative process to help evolve the illustration, resulting in a modular design that could be displayed as a whole or zoomed in, to spark curiosity and conversation. Leaning into Cynthia’s signature geometric and colourful style, we also produced a myriad of marketing assets, from social media graphics to conference signage.

Outcomes

It was a joy to help CPHR BC & Yukon gather a record-breaking crowd! Plus, the conference reach will only increase, as sessions were made available for on-demand viewing after the event.

This year’s “Flourish” theme allowed for many interesting visual interpretations that matched the innovative energy, curiosity, and spirit of the conference. We’re delighted to help keep things fresh, inviting, and inspiring after all these years!
