Celebrating employees making a difference at the City of Edmonton

We helped the City of Edmonton recognize the contributions of their employees and amplified their stories of impact.
Communication design challenge
Following the launch of the City of Edmonton’s new cultural commitments at the time, the city sought to celebrate employees who exemplified the commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent. Partnering with the city’s executive team, iilo co-owner Madelen Ortega produced materials for the peer nomination process and helped to organize an awards ceremony.
With a short turnaround time, Madelen also led the production of 17 short videos highlighting each nominee’s impact on the City of Edmonton. She coordinated with the city’s procurement department to work with a video production company, crafted interview questions, supported shoots at 17 locations, and managed feedback from multiple stakeholders during the video editing process. The final videos were showcased at the awards ceremony and were posted online as the “This is who we are” video series.
Outcomes
The peer nomination process and widely circulated video series reinforced the City of Edmonton’s cultural commitments. Each nominee felt recognized and appreciated as their stories were celebrated in the present and documented for posterity. This project highlighted the effectiveness of employee recognition as a strategy for fostering a positive corporate culture.
