Engaging employees to give back to the community
We helped EPCOR honour its commitment to building stronger communities by helping to plan and implement two large-scale employee engagement events.
Communication design challenge
EPCOR builds, owns and operates electrical, natural gas and water transmission and distribution networks, water and wastewater treatment facilities, sanitary and stormwater systems, and infrastructure in Canada and the United States. The company’s priorities include both nurturing a strong culture of employee engagement and creating meaningful relationships in the community. iilo co-owner Madelen Ortega helped EPCOR’s Edmonton office to bring the two priorities together by helping to coordinate two events that had employees giving back to charities in Edmonton and the surrounding areas.
The first initiative was an EPCOR-sponsored military families appreciation night at an Edmonton Elks football game. Serving as a liaison between various internal departments and external stakeholders, Madelen helped to coordinate pre-game ads, social media posts, and cross-promotions, while making sure military families were properly appreciated. She also guided about 50 EPCOR employee volunteers through the volunteer sign-up process, game day logistics, and final thank-yous.
The second initiative was EPCOR’s annual employee donation drive supporting United Way. Madelen provided project management support and assisted the donation team leading up to, and on, various fundraising event days and activities. As there were multiple events happening in different locations, she helped to ensure all logistics were carefully planned and implemented.
Outcomes
Both events provided meaningful opportunities for EPCOR employees to make a difference in their communities. EPCOR successfully met all sponsorship commitments of the Edmonton Elks game and raised a substantial amount of money for United Way. These events reinforced EPCOR’s corporate culture of generosity, engagement, and support for the communities in which it operates.
