Refining a visual identity for invasive species education
Educating the public about invasive plants and animals is a complex task. As they work for invasive species prevention and management, iilo helped ISCBC to communicate the importance of their work to the general public in a friendly and engaging way.
Communication design challenge
The Invasive Species Council of British Columbia (ISCBC) is a non-profit organization providing information on the biogeography and identification of the invasive plants and animal species of British Columbia.
The ISCBC needed a more current and fresh design to appeal to British Columbians and funders alike. iilo Creative Alliance was brought on board to help create a suite of documents for their programs, and the project offered a perfect opportunity to also refine their brand details.
Outcomes
Guided by a desire to reflect a smart, friendly, and bold brand, and working on a tight timeline, we began the project by refining the ISCBC logo colours and word mark. We cleaned up the ISCBC logo with an entire redraw but kept the integrity of the logo design. This addressed complex technical issues with the logo file that were causing inconsistencies and stretched the limits of what the brand could look like. We considered the need for both horizontal and vertical applications and also how the icon could work for social media applications.
To make it easier for the ISCBC in-house team to use, we updated the brand typography to use easily available fonts and we refined their colour palette to align with their popular PlantWise program.
Once the logo refresh was completed, we updated the ISCBC’s robust library of brand assets and marketing collateral, from business cards to fact sheets and reports. As a result, the in-house team could manage their brand more efficiently and establish consistency.
