Advancing gender justice & equality with a WordPress website
The new West Coast LEAF website reflects a fresh tone of diversity, hope, and optimism, elevating the organization’s work towards creating a more just and equitable society.
Communication design challenge
West Coast LEAF applies the law as a strategy to work towards an equal and just society by challenging gender-based discrimination. In collaboration with community, West Coast LEAF uses litigation, law reform, and public legal education to create social change.
This project was a true co-creation with our client. Our aim was to bring people into the organization’s important work by presenting options to take action, offering various education tools and resources, and encouraging donations. We worked closely with West Coast LEAF’s staff members at every project stage to refine and build on web design ideas and website functionality, and ensure the site would meet the needs of many users. Meeting web accessibility standards on both the front and back end was a top priority.
We also helped the organization with content strategy to reposition and reorganize their web content to make it easier for people to explore their work and focus areas, and dive into complex content like cases and submissions.
Outcomes
The finished product is a clean, vibrant website with thoughtful and custom design features, like the ability to turn the gradient motion on the top banner image on and off, to avoid overstimulation. On the back end, the website was programmed with WordPress’s Gutenberg block-based editor, making it easy for staff members to manage website content efficiently and with minimal support.
